Exercise and the path to happiness.
When correlating happiness and exercise I am always so temped to receipt the quote from the notorious classic Legally Blonde. “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't.”
According to the National Institute of Mental health, 21 million Americans suffer from depression. This illness is not easily tackled. It takes a lot of go getter attitude and make a change ambition. But getting to that point is even a struggle. What I have noticed in my years as personal trainer is having someone to hold you accountable makes it easier to get up and go. If I had a penny for every time a client showed up tired, unmotivated or in a bad mood, well… I wouldn’t be writing this blog. Most every client on my roster has shown up with this type of attitude. The cool thing is once we get their heart rate up the down feeling seems fade away by the minute. Thank you endorphins.
I have never had a client leave in a bad mood. The beauty of accomplishing a workout is just that. The feeling you succeeded at something. I have found is this feeling snowballs into more positive accomplishments that continue to enrich your path to happiness. The CDC recommends that adults engage in 150 minutes of moderately vigorous exercise per week. That is 30 min a day for 5 days. Imagine you did this for 5 days and felt that accomplishment every time. With these accomplishments you gain mental strength along side physical strength to help boost your blues.
