Continuing with a personal trainer after physical therapy.
First of all I have to say when I worked in physical therapy clinic it was so rewarding to observe patients find a true long lasting passion for exercise and movement after treatment was complete. Per my last post about exercise and happiness these patients found a routine that increased endorphins enriching their lives. What these people also gained is education and understanding that if you don’t use it, you lose it.
Most people end of up in a physical therapy clinic after an injury, surgery or chronic pain. You have a Physical Therapist treating your ailment while helping you strengthen to avoid further pain and injury. Every person that has ever been to physical therapy knows you are always sent home with paper showing your “homework” exercises. Usually 4-5 simple body weight or banded movements that help strengthen and mobilize the area of concern. While these guides are helpful and will help you heal, you run the risk of your progress turning vanilla.
Graduating from physical therapy doesn’t mean that you are completely healed. You still need to continue to strengthen to maintain what you’ve overcome. We all know that bodies in motion stay in motion. Therefor continuing your strength training journey with a personal trainer experienced in physical therapy and corrective exercise will only guide you into success. Your Physical Therapist is a great accountability tool and source for education. Your personal trainer knows the protocol you just endured and is educated in the strengthening practices necessary to have you moving at your best. They will show you new exercises to keep your workouts interesting yet safe for your fitness level and goals.
I have to be honest that post physical therapy clients are my true inspiration to keep people moving and continue my education working closely with physical therapists and MD’s. Schedule with me and I will only enhance your lifestyle after injury.
